ABBOTT Stella Mary It is with deep sadness I advise of the death of Stella Mary Abbott, aged 86 of Turfcote Nursing Home, Haslingden on March 3 at Royal Blackburn Hospital. Devoted wife to Tony Abbott (late) mum to Andy Abbott, Viny Abbott (both late) and daughter Laura Walden. Beloved nana to Cameron, Matthew and Sophie and great nana to Daisy. Mum also managed to find time for some hobbies including writing, drawing, sewing and gardening, she was a founding member of Hasiwriters Group who published two books in Rossendale. I would like to share one of mum's poems in memory of her talent and love. The Winds of Change The winds of change blow roughly, Roaring through the hush of time, Wearing smooth the angled rocks Of vengeful feuds set by ancient crime. The winds of change blow slowly, Whisp'ring through still space, Moving generations, Keeping young the family face. The winds of change are fickle In their fantasy of strife, So when they come a-calling Be sure to love your life. Mum's funeral will take place at Accrington Crematorium on March 17, 2026 at 11.40am, followed by a small wake at the Whitewell in Waterfoot. Family flowers only please, donations to Dementia UK.
